Lunenburg County, Virginia

According to the 2000 Census, Lunenburg County, Virginia has a population of 13,146 people. Of those, 7,772 (59%) are White, 5,072 (39%) are Black, and 235 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,119 (or 9% of the 13,146 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Lunenburg County a population of 12,027 with a demographic that is 62% White, 36% Black, and 2% Latino.
