Reeves County, Texas
According to the 2000 Census, Reeves County, Texas has a population of 13,137 people. Of those, 10,421 (79%) are White, 276 (2%) are Black, and 9,640 (73%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,070 (or 8% of the 13,137 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.
Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.
A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Reeves County a population of 12,067 with a demographic that is 78% White, 2% Black, and 79% Latino.
