Lorain County, Ohio

According to the 2000 Census, Lorain County, Ohio has a population of 284,664 people. Of those, 243,514 (86%) are White, 24,203 (9%) are Black, and 19,676 (7%) are Latino[1]. However, 4,099 (or 1% of the 284,664 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Lorain County a population of 280,565 with a demographic that is 86% White, 8% Black, and 7% Latino.
