Buchanan County, Missouri

According to the 2000 Census, Buchanan County, Missouri has a population of 85,998 people. Of those, 79,744 (93%) are White, 3,751 (4%) are Black, and 2,086 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 2,113 (or 2% of the 85,998 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Buchanan County a population of 83,885 with a demographic that is 93% White, 4% Black, and 2% Latino.
