Plymouth County, Massachusetts

According to the 2000 Census, Plymouth County, Massachusetts has a population of 472,822 people. Of those, 419,370 (89%) are White, 21,573 (5%) are Black, and 11,537 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 3,765 (or 1% of the 472,822 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Plymouth County a population of 469,057 with a demographic that is 89% White, 4% Black, and 2% Latino.
