St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana

According to the 2000 Census, St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana has a population of 43,044 people. Of those, 22,633 (53%) are White, 19,268 (45%) are Black, and 1,230 (3%) are Latino[1]. However, 315 (or 1% of the 43,044 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give St. John the Baptist Parish a population of 42,729 with a demographic that is 53% White, 45% Black, and 3% Latino.
