Madison County, Indiana

According to the 2000 Census, Madison County, Indiana has a population of 133,358 people. Of those, 119,892 (90%) are White, 10,511 (8%) are Black, and 1,993 (1%) are Latino[1]. However, 2,845 (or 2% of the 133,358 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Madison County a population of 130,513 with a demographic that is 91% White, 7% Black, and 1% Latino.
