Vermilion County, Illinois

According to the 2000 Census, Vermilion County, Illinois has a population of 83,919 people. Of those, 72,032 (86%) are White, 8,882 (11%) are Black, and 2,504 (3%) are Latino[1]. However, 2,003 (or 2% of the 83,919 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Vermilion County a population of 81,916 with a demographic that is 87% White, 9% Black, and 3% Latino.
