Troup County, Georgia

According to the 2000 Census, Troup County, Georgia has a population of 58,779 people. Of those, 38,676 (66%) are White, 18,734 (32%) are Black, and 1,004 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 489 (or 1% of the 58,779 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Troup County a population of 58,290 with a demographic that is 66% White, 32% Black, and 2% Latino.
