Muscogee County, Georgia

According to the 2000 Census, Muscogee County, Georgia has a population of 186,291 people. Of those, 93,936 (50%) are White, 81,488 (44%) are Black, and 8,372 (4%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,946 (or 1% of the 186,291 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Muscogee County a population of 184,345 with a demographic that is 51% White, 43% Black, and 5% Latino.
