Lowndes County, Georgia

According to the 2000 Census, Lowndes County, Georgia has a population of 92,115 people. Of those, 57,112 (62%) are White, 31,309 (34%) are Black, and 2,447 (3%) are Latino[1]. However, 4,190 (or 5% of the 92,115 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Lowndes County a population of 87,925 with a demographic that is 62% White, 34% Black, and 3% Latino.
