Liberty County, Florida

According to the 2000 Census, Liberty County, Florida has a population of 7,021 people. Of those, 5,365 (76%) are White, 1,294 (18%) are Black, and 316 (5%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,337 (or 19% of the 7,021 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Liberty County a population of 5,684 with a demographic that is 84% White, 11% Black, and 3% Latino.
