Hardee County, Florida

According to the 2000 Census, Hardee County, Florida has a population of 26,938 people. Of those, 19,035 (71%) are White, 2,244 (8%) are Black, and 9,611 (36%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,255 (or 5% of the 26,938 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Hardee County a population of 25,683 with a demographic that is 72% White, 6% Black, and 37% Latino.
