Crowley County, Colorado

According to the 2000 Census, Crowley County, Colorado has a population of 5,518 people. Of those, 4,577 (83%) are White, 389 (7%) are Black, and 1,244 (23%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,955 (or 35% of the 5,518 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Crowley County a population of 3,563 with a demographic that is 87% White, 0% Black, and 22% Latino.
