Galveston County, Texas

According to the 2000 Census, Galveston County, Texas has a population of 250,158 people. Of those, 181,830 (73%) are White, 38,625 (15%) are Black, and 44,939 (18%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,275 (or 1% of the 250,158 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Galveston County a population of 248,883 with a demographic that is 73% White, 15% Black, and 18% Latino.
