Camden County, New Jersey

According to the 2000 Census, Camden County, New Jersey has a population of 508,932 people. Of those, 360,756 (71%) are White, 92,059 (18%) are Black, and 49,166 (10%) are Latino[1]. However, 3,353 (or 1% of the 508,932 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Camden County a population of 505,579 with a demographic that is 71% White, 18% Black, and 10% Latino.

Reported in
Census 2000
Total 508,932 3,353 505,579
White 360,756 732 360,024
Black 92,059 2,091 89,968
Latino 49,166 636 48,530

[1]The numbers for Whites, Blacks and Latinos may not add up to the total number because we have not included racial groups other than Whites and Blacks and because the Census Bureau considers "Latino" to be an ethnicity, not a race. Most of the people reported as being Latino are also counted as being White or Black.
