Butts County, Georgia

According to the 2000 Census, Butts County, Georgia has a population of 19,522 people. Of those, 13,514 (69%) are White, 5,627 (29%) are Black, and 277 (1%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,789 (or 9% of the 19,522 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Butts County a population of 17,733 with a demographic that is 71% White, 27% Black, and 1% Latino.
