However, each state has taken a slightly different approach towards achieving that goal, creating laws that sometimes differ in substantive (though not always substantial) ways.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"popoutright\"><a href=\"\/models\/chart.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/static.prisonpolicy.org\/images\/reportthumbs\/legislative_reference_chart.png\" alt=\"chart thumbnail\" width=\"250\" height=\"204\" class=\"reportcover wide250\"><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWe have created a new <a href=\"\/models\/chart.html\">quick reference chart<\/a> to help advocates and legislators sift through and compare some of these differences.
