{"id":8245,"date":"2015-03-24T14:32:37","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T18:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/?p=8245"},"modified":"2015-03-24T14:32:37","modified_gmt":"2015-03-24T18:32:37","slug":"oregon-sb331","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/2015\/03\/24\/oregon-sb331\/","title":{"rendered":"Oregon moving against prison gerrymandering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This afternoon in Oregon, the state&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/olis.leg.state.or.us\/liz\/2015R1\/Committees\/SRULES\/2015-03-24-15-00\/Agenda\">Senate Committee on Rules will hold a work session<\/a> that will include a discussion of <a href=\"https:\/\/olis.leg.state.or.us\/liz\/2015R1\/Measures\/Overview\/SB331\">SB 331<\/a>, a bill to end prison gerrymandering.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe committee has already <a href=\"\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/oregon.html#testimony\">received testimony supporting the bill<\/a> from numerous organizations when it held a public hearing earlier this month.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSeveral people also <a href=\"http:\/\/oregon.granicus.com\/MediaPlayer.php?clip_id=8569\">testified in person<\/a>, including two of the bill&#8217;s sponsors, with Senator Shields pointing out that &#8220;since we&#8217;ve a little bit of distance between redistricting this might be the exact opportune time to take this on&#8221;.
