{"id":7018,"date":"2013-05-16T10:30:19","date_gmt":"2013-05-16T14:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/?p=7018"},"modified":"2013-05-16T10:32:11","modified_gmt":"2013-05-16T14:32:11","slug":"il-house-hb62","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/2013\/05\/16\/il-house-hb62\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois House passes bill to end prison gerrymandering!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday afternoon the Illinois House passed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=62&#038;GAID=12&#038;DocTypeID=HB&#038;LegId=68342&#038;SessionID=85&#038;GA=98\">HB 62<\/a>, the &#8220;No Representation Without Population Act&#8221; to end prison gerrymandering! The bill now goes on to the Senate Assignments committee, where it needs to pass out within four days to go on to a Senate floor vote.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois organizers on the ground are asking Illinois residents to please spread the word that a quick phone call urging <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/senate\/\">your state Senator<\/a> to join as a co-sponsor of the bill will help ensure that this bill will be successful in the Senate as well.<\/p>\n<p>For some talking points or for more general information on prison gerrymandering in Illinois, please see <a href=\"\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/illinois.html\">our campaign page<\/a>.
