{"id":2416,"date":"2011-04-11T13:48:58","date_gmt":"2011-04-11T17:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/?p=2416"},"modified":"2021-12-15T21:29:16","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T02:29:16","slug":"release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonersofthecensus.org\/news\/2011\/04\/11\/release\/","title":{"rendered":"Advance Group Quarters Table coming soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, the Census Bureau announced in a Press Tip that the Advance Group Quarters Table will be out in late April: <\/p>\n<p class=\"quote\">Advance Group Quarters Summary File &#8212; This file contains one table showing<br \/>\ncounts for seven types of group quarters from the 2010 Census. The<br \/>\ninstitutionalized group quarters categories include correctional facilities<br \/>\nfor adults, juvenile facilities, nursing facilities\/skilled-nursing<br \/>\nfacilities and other institutional facilities; while the<br \/>\nnoninstitutionalized group quarters categories include college\/university<br \/>\nstudent housing, military quarters and other noninstitutional facilities.<br \/>\nData are shown for states, counties, census tracts and blocks. This table<br \/>\nwill only be available via the FTP site and is identical to table P42 in<br \/>\nSummary File 1 to be released this summer. (Scheduled for release in late<br \/>\nApril.)<\/p>\n<p>This is slightly earlier than expected, and great news for state and local governments that are redistricting on a tight timeline. For the first time, these governments will have know which census blocks contain prisons and the size of that population. They can then choose, if they wish, to remove that population or reallocate it to other addresses prior to drawing district lines.<\/p>\n<p>The data will be available via links from the <a href=\"web.archive.org\/web\/20110430095035\/http:\/\/www.census.gov\/rdo\/data\/\">Redistricting Data Office<\/a> page and that of the Count Question Resolution program.
