Greensville County, Virginia

According to the 2000 Census, Greensville County, Virginia has a population of 11,560 people. Of those, 4,502 (39%) are White, 6,907 (60%) are Black, and 108 (1%) are Latino[1]. However, 3,027 (or 26% of the 11,560 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Greensville County a population of 8,533 with a demographic that is 43% White, 55% Black, and 1% Latino.
