Terry County, Texas

According to the 2000 Census, Terry County, Texas has a population of 12,761 people. Of those, 9,769 (77%) are White, 638 (5%) are Black, and 5,626 (44%) are Latino[1]. However, 883 (or 7% of the 12,761 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Terry County a population of 11,878 with a demographic that is 78% White, 3% Black, and 44% Latino.
