Coryell County, Texas

According to the 2000 Census, Coryell County, Texas has a population of 74,978 people. Of those, 48,946 (65%) are White, 16,344 (22%) are Black, and 9,424 (13%) are Latino[1]. However, 8,950 (or 12% of the 74,978 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Coryell County a population of 66,028 with a demographic that is 68% White, 19% Black, and 12% Latino.
