Bastrop County, Texas

According to the 2000 Census, Bastrop County, Texas has a population of 57,733 people. Of those, 46,327 (80%) are White, 5,072 (9%) are Black, and 13,845 (24%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,610 (or 3% of the 57,733 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Bastrop County a population of 56,123 with a demographic that is 81% White, 8% Black, and 23% Latino.
