Allendale County, South Carolina

According to the 2000 Census, Allendale County, South Carolina has a population of 11,211 people. Of those, 3,068 (27%) are White, 7,960 (71%) are Black, and 181 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,089 (or 10% of the 11,211 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Allendale County a population of 10,122 with a demographic that is 27% White, 71% Black, and 2% Latino.
