Lancaster County, Nebraska

According to the 2000 Census, Lancaster County, Nebraska has a population of 250,291 people. Of those, 225,426 (90%) are White, 7,052 (3%) are Black, and 8,437 (3%) are Latino[1]. However, 2,860 (or 1% of the 250,291 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Lancaster County a population of 247,431 with a demographic that is 90% White, 3% Black, and 3% Latino.
