Baltimore city, Maryland

According to the 2000 Census, Baltimore city, Maryland has a population of 651,154 people. Of those, 205,982 (32%) are White, 418,951 (64%) are Black, and 11,061 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 7,526 (or 1% of the 651,154 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Baltimore city a population of 643,628 with a demographic that is 32% White, 64% Black, and 2% Latino.
