Will County, Illinois

According to the 2000 Census, Will County, Illinois has a population of 502,266 people. Of those, 411,027 (82%) are White, 52,509 (10%) are Black, and 43,768 (9%) are Latino[1]. However, 4,525 (or 1% of the 502,266 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Will County a population of 497,741 with a demographic that is 82% White, 10% Black, and 9% Latino.
