Stewart County, Georgia

According to the 2000 Census, Stewart County, Georgia has a population of 5,252 people. Of those, 1,949 (37%) are White, 3,232 (62%) are Black, and 79 (2%) are Latino[1]. However, 41 (or 1% of the 5,252 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Stewart County a population of 5,211 with a demographic that is 37% White, 62% Black, and 2% Latino.
