Levy County, Florida
According to the 2000 Census, Levy County, Florida has a population of 34,450 people. Of those, 29,586 (86%) are White, 3,778 (11%) are Black, and 1,339 (4%) are Latino[1]. However, 370 (or 1% of the 34,450 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.
Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.
A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Levy County a population of 34,080 with a demographic that is 86% White, 11% Black, and 4% Latino.
