Indian River County, Florida

According to the 2000 Census, Indian River County, Florida has a population of 112,947 people. Of those, 98,754 (87%) are White, 9,253 (8%) are Black, and 7,381 (7%) are Latino[1]. However, 718 (or 1% of the 112,947 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Indian River County a population of 112,229 with a demographic that is 88% White, 8% Black, and 7% Latino.
