Hendry County, Florida

According to the 2000 Census, Hendry County, Florida has a population of 36,210 people. Of those, 23,926 (66%) are White, 5,340 (15%) are Black, and 14,336 (40%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,254 (or 3% of the 36,210 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Hendry County a population of 34,956 with a demographic that is 67% White, 13% Black, and 41% Latino.
