According to the 2000 Census, Trinity County, California has a population of 13,022 people. Of those, 11,573 (89%) are White, 58 (0%) are Black, and 517 (4%) are Latino[1]. However, 167 (or 1% of the 13,022 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.
Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.
A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Trinity County a population of 12,855 with a demographic that is 89% White, 0% Black, and 4% Latino.
