Bullock County, Alabama

According to the 2000 Census, Bullock County, Alabama has a population of 11,714 people. Of those, 2,958 (25%) are White, 8,564 (73%) are Black, and 322 (3%) are Latino[1]. However, 1,397 (or 12% of the 11,714 people) are not residents by choice but are people in prison.

Even though prisoners cannot participate in the local community, the Census Bureau nevertheless counts them as residents of the county where they are incarcerated.

A more accurate description would not include the prisoners. This would give Bullock County a population of 10,317 with a demographic that is 25% White, 74% Black, and 3% Latino.
